Usain Bolt
Yesterday evening I looked at Usain Bolt winning the gold medal in the 100 metres sprint in the London Olympics. I had heard that he was not in his best form at the moment and that Blake had a chance to win. But looking at Usain Bolt running., well, no doubt he is actually the faster man in the world. What a delight for the eyes! And as an artist of course, the Jamaican colours, green and yellow , are a gift!
I first wanted to make 2 different artworks, one of the run itself, and then one of Usain Bolt making his emblematic lightening bolt. But I decided to combine both themes and have them on the same painting. Well, here is the result: I personally quite like it, but it was really a tough work!
It is amazing, in fact. The 100 metres sprint is one of the most expected events in the Olympics, if not THE most expected, and it does not even last 10 seconds! I am really wondering how these guys are able to spend their life training that run, to see it finished and decided within that short time. Good at least for the winner, but what is with the losers? I really wonder how they mentally deal with it. But they do, and very soon they will start training again, and give it another go. Human nature is so amazing!
This painting of Usain Bolt, as well as many other featuring the 2012 London Olympics and more generally, sport themes, are currently available as Giclee prints in many dimensions, on paper and canvas, as well as greeting cards. Just click on the painting above to access my shop online.
