Painting The USA

The U.S.A.¬† has never been a place I dreamed of, apart of course from New Orleans, which probably 99% of the French dream to visit! But Kevin is a huge fan of the U.S.A. and Americana, so I had -for once!- to make a compromise and accepted to go on a 7 week trip, from January to March 2010- through the Southern States following the music highway. We started in Nashville, then Memphis, Helena, Clarksdale, Jackson, New Orleans, Austin, Little Rock and back to Nashville. By a sheer stroke of luck we happened to be in Memphis during the Blues Festival and in New Orleans during the Carnival AND the occasion of The New Orleans Saints winning the Super Bowl for the first time in their history! From the musical point of view it was a fabulous trip, but artistically there was not much for me there. Not even New Orleans inspired me as much as expected. I think I have a problem with their ‘grid systems’ of parallel roads in each town. I don’t like parallels, and I don’t like symmetry! The result being that I mostly painted the music of the USA, but in a rather weird way…

These paintings of the USA are available directly online as Giclee print in many different dimensions, on paper, canvas or metal, and also as greeting cards.
