Painting Morocco

I had always dreamt of visiting and painting Morocco, my fantasy having probably being fired by tales from 1001 nights… In December 2011 we decided to treat ourselves to a nice Christmas present and eventually chose a 10 day holiday in Morocco. Morocco is in fact not so far away from us, simply across the channel, reachable by land and ferry. But we had not enough time to do that, so we drove to Madrid and flew to Marrakesh. We shared our time between Essaouira, Marrakesh and in the mountains. It was an extraordinary trip, immensely rich in exotic and often shocking impressions. I already knew Africa, my parents having lived in Congo many years, but somehow this was beyond what we knew. Only seconds out of the modern, yet beautifully aesthetic airport terminal, and one felt like one had been supplanted into another world, back to a time almost biblical.

I had no time to sketch while I was there, too much to do in too little time, but I did some paintings when I came back home, based on photographs I took. Others have been painted from fantasy.

These paintings of Morocco are available directly online as Giclee print in many different dimensions, on paper, canvas or metal, and also as greeting cards.
