Fun with Turtles

Funny Turtles

The “Funny Turtles” series was mainly created  in connection with a big ecard company some years ago. They loved my art, so they asked me to join and I accepted, eager for a new challenge. My job was to create artworks which people around the world could send as ecards on many different occasions. Occasions such as Christmas, Easter, baby birth, celebrations, birthdays, hug day, falling in love, etc.
But apart from these big events, there were other yearly celebrations of which I was not aware. In fact I was amazed when I saw the company calendar of all the events for which they had ecards available. One of the them was “The World Turtle Day”.
Before I began to create artworks, I of course searched for some info about that day. This is what Wikipedia has to say:

“… The purpose of World Turtle Day, May 23, sponsored yearly since 2000 by American Tortoise Rescue, is to bring attention to, and increase knowledge of and respect for, turtles and tortoises, and encourage human action to help them survive and thrive…”

According to that, I did mainly artworks where turtles were protecting themselves against the world. Being faithful to myself, I treated the theme with humour!

I like tortoises and turtles, they  look so funny and touching. One of my favourite books ever, “Momo” by the German author Michael Ende, the story of time thieves,  has a tortoise as one of the main characters. Her name is Kassiopeia. She can look half an hour in the future, but can’t speak about it. Instead she expresses herself with writing which appears on her shield. Anyway, I think I will do some more turtle artworks soon, and gradually add them to this gallery.

My funny turtle artworks, and many others, are available directly online as Giclee print in many different dimensions, on paper, canvas or metal, and also as greeting cards.
